Trip to Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island is located just outside of Perth. Now I don’t know yet what’s there, so first of all I need to sort out how to get there. Two ferries services are available: Ferry Options are the Rottnest Express Ferry, departing from Perth, and Rottnest Fast Ferries, departing from Hillarys, just north of Perth. In these two tables I am comparing the services, to decide which one is the best for my needs. Just for clarity: all the prices are updated as of today (14/11/2015).

Which Bike Hire?

On the island there are a lot of bike hire available. You can hire from the ferry services as well as some of the hires on the island. The most interesting for me are:

Bike Hire options at Rottnest
Name Services offered Price and info
Bike and Bus Operates 7 days a week

Ride your bike until you are tired then simply leave it at a bus stop and enjoy climate-controlled comfort as you return to the Settlement on the Island Explorer bus. Ideal for families with small children or those who only ride once a year. Available from Pedal & Flipper.

My opinion: This one might be a good option if you feel tired and you don’t really want to ride all the way.

Adults $45; Child $30; Concession $40; includes Bike Bus and our collection service.

Rottnest Island Pedal & Flipper

Cycling is the best way to enjoy the beauty of the Island. Rottnest Island Pedal & Flipper has more than 1500 bikes for hire to help you explore. We also offer the Island’s only call out service, so in the event of a breakdown we take care of you. Located just behind Hotel Rottnest

My opinion: This one might be a good option to enjoy the island without any hassle. The price according to their website (available here) is 30$, and $3 for the helmet for an adult. For the electrical bike the price for a day is $60.
